Washington State Huskies graduate transfer K.J. Carta-Samuels is headed to play for Chip Kelly and the UCLA Bruins. A former four-star prospect, he will be immediately eligible to play in the upcoming season.
Carta-Samuels was originally a member of the 2014 recruiting class. He spent the last two seasons being the primary backup gunslinger to starter Jake Browning.
The youngster made the announcement to CBS, but his brother also did so on the mean streets of Twitter.
"UCLA is the right place because, first of all, Chip Kelly is a huge reason why," Carta-Samuels told CBS Sports. "He's going to be running an offense that I'd like to be a part of and add to. With that said, it's close to home. Being from the Bay Area, it's just a little bit south.
"Being on a quarter system, up at Washington finishing winter quarter and I can step right in in the spring quarter. So being able to partake in spring ball is a big factor."
Carta-Samuels has completed 27-of-47 passes for 310 yards in his career.
Chip Kelly still has a handful of options at quarterback for next season. UCLA returns some talented guys who have little experience. The Bruins are also bringing in four-star commit Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who is largely considered one of the best dual-threat QBs of his recruiting class.
