Before Alabama Crimson Tide outside linebacker Terrell Lewis stepped foot on campus, the potential to be great was always there. Playing in the NFL was always the plan. Things haven't exactly gone the way anyone thought, but it appears his time in Tuscaloosa is coming to an end.
When the Crimson Tide host the Western Carolina Catamounts on Saturday, it will likely be the last time the redshirt junior will suit up and play at Bryant-Denny Stadium. At least that's the report right now.
According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, Alabama plans to honor Lewis for Senior Day as he's expected to enter to the 2020 NFL Draft.
This is a very classy move by head coach Nick Saban and Alabama football. Lewis, a Washington, D.C. native, is one of the good guys in NCAA college football. It's a shame his career has been cut short by injuries.
Lewis played in 11 games as a freshman in 2016 before missing 10 games to start the next season with an elbow injury. He did return, however, and made his first career start in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against the Georgia Bulldogs.
Then, unfortunately, Lewis suffered a torn ACL before last season and was forced to miss the entire year.
Lewis bounced back nicely in 2019, recording 30 tackles, including six sacks with.a fumble recovery and two pass deflections through the Tide's first 10 games. But it appears his SEC days at Alabama are numbered. All he has left is one home game, the Iron Bowl against the Auburn Tigers, and either a spot in the CFP or a bowl game. That's it.
So while most fans will be paying attention to quarterback Mac Jones after the injury to Tua Tagovailoa, there's no doubt Terrell Lewis will get a loud ovation during Senior Day, too.
