Auburn Blows Their Chance to Land an Elite Offensive Coordinator... Again

It looks like the Auburn Tigers are about to lose a chance to get one of the top offensive coordinators in the game. Reports out of Los Angeles are that former Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury is leaning towards becoming the new offensive coordinator of the USC Trojans, which would be HUGE get for the Trojans.

However, don't start packing Kingsbury's bags just yet. His agent said that nothing has been decided yet, and several NFL sources are saying that Kingsbury is getting offers from several NFL teams, including the Los Angeles Rams.

So what does this mean for a team like Auburn? It means they still have a shot at getting one of the best offensive minds in all of college football.

More realistically though, it means the chances of Kingsbury coming to Auburn is probably zero. After what happened down on the Plains between Malzahn and the school, do you blame Kingsbury or any other potential offensive coordinator candidate to take a hard pass on this job if it was offered to him?

The fiasco between head coach Gus Malzahn and the Auburn boosters can best be described as disastrous, which is probably why Kingsbury wouldn't give the Auburn job a second look even if it became open.

Auburn may also be losing out on another candidate as well. Reports out of Knoxville are that former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze has been talking to Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt to take over as the Volunteers' offensive coordinator.

And while all this is going on, Auburn is doing, well, nothing. Why? Probably because Gus Malzahn and his staff are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Malzahn just gave Auburn University more reasons to fire him at any time next season, and I am sure that won't sit well with anyone they may want to bring in.

So, basically Auburn may have blown its chances with these two, which is a bad look for a program that needs help in a big way.
