If you are a team in the middle of the standings with one loss, this could prove to be the week where you are able to move up in the rankings.
... or not.
Week 7 of the season is nearly upon us, which means one thing: the 2017 regular season essentially halfway over. Most teams are in the real meat of their schedules, and upsets — like evidenced last week by Oklahoma and Michigan — could happen at any time, any week thanks to hungry in-conference opponents.
So who's on upset alert this week? Let's find out.
No. 10 Auburn
Oct. 14 at LSU
Auburn hasn't won in Baton Rouge since 1999. In case you have taken a look at a calendar this year, it's 2017.
To be fair, LSU has generally been a Top 10 team in those years where they got wins at home, and they aren't a Top 10 team this year in case you haven't heard.
Auburn's offense has looked great in their pas two games, but even in a down year, LSU's defense is something else to handle, and in a game that is expected to be nearly 90-degrees at kickoff? That's a formula for things to get weird.
I still think Auburn wins here, but it's going to be a lot closer than they want.
No. 11 Miami
Oct. 14 vs. Georgia Tech
Miami is coming off a big win at Florida State last week, and now things get tricky with Georgia Tech's option attack.
Miami was originally scheduled to have a week off before this game, but Hurricane Irma changed their schedule meaning they had to play FSU and Georgia Tech in back-to-back games. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech has had two weeks off so far this season and is one of the healthiest teams in college football.
Miami coach Mark Richt has had success against Georgia Tech in the past, and Miami has the athletes to defend it, but Georgia Tech has looked great on offense this year, and the circumstances are in their favor here. This one could get interesting in a hurry.
No. 12 Oklahoma
Oct. 14 vs. Texas (neutral site)
Speaking of where things could get interesting in a hurry...
Oklahoma is reeling after their loss to Iowa State at home last week, and now they have to deal with a Texas team that has looked good in recent week, even with the loss to USC a few weeks ago. Freshman Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger should get the start in this game, and with limited tape to go on for him, Oklahoma's defense could be scrambling even more than they have been in recent weeks.
