Until the College Football Playoff field actually expands to (at least) eight teams, there will be a growing sentiment for the change to occur. While not everyone is on board just yet, expansion is a natural thing with the success of the four-team playoff to this point and, on Wednesday, a prominent SEC head coach made his thoughts quite clear when it comes to potential expansion.

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn, who is likely feeling quite secure after signing a huge contract extension, joined The Triple Threat radio show in Houston (h/t AL.com) and indicated that he "would love for there to be eight teams" in the field moving forward. Beyond that, Malzahn also said he believes that an eight-team field is "where it's going" and that he'd "personally like to see it."
Obviously, Malzahn isn't the first to support the idea and he won't be the last, but it is probably important to note that Auburn would have been a real contender for an eight-team group this season. That kind of self-interest always seems to make its way into the discussion in the sport, but Malzahn's vision of an eight-team playoff in the future seems nearly inevitable, even if the timeline is debatable.
