Mississippi State Might've Had the Worst Snap in College Football History

Mississippi State found itself in a dog fight against Arkansas, but one snap was worse than any fan has probably seen.

Mississippi State took on Arkansas in a matchup of two struggling SEC teams. Before today, both teams hadn't won an SEC game, were a combined 0-7 in league play and were at the bottom of the SEC West standings.

It was a must-win game for both teams, fighting for bowl eligibility in the best conference in college football. It was not an appealing game to watch from an offensive standpoint, with only 405 yards of offense between the two teams and a whopping 12 punts. The worst, though? A snap like you've never seen before.

With 3:45 left in the third quarter, Mississippi State had the ball on their own three-yard line. They ran for gain on the first down and had an illegal procedure penalty on the second down. It was second and 11 at their own two-yard line. Mississippi State center Cole Smith, a sixth-year senior, had the worst snap you will ever see.

He tried to snap it to quarterback Mike Wright, who was in shotgun formation, but the ball never left the ground. Wright fell on the ball and recovered it at their own one-yard line. The Mississippi State offensive line never moved because the snap was so bad, and Mississippi State had a false start penalty because of it.

Arkansas took the lead briefly in the first quarter on a 24-yard field goal thanks to kicker Cam Little. Those were the only points Arkansas would score in the game and the only time Arkansas would be in the red zone. Mississippi State scored a touchdown early in the second quarter thanks to a Mike Wright two-yard passing touchdown to Jo'Quavious Marks to take a 7-3 lead.

Mississippi State would hold onto the 7-3 with their defense only giving up 200 yards of offense and forcing two turnovers. They improved to 4-3 overall and 1-3 in SEC play and play Auburn next Saturday. Arkansas falls to 2-6 and 0-5 in SEC play, and they are on a bye week before traveling to Florida on Nov. 4.
