The ESPN College GameDay crew covered a myriad of topics on Saturday, but one of the most prevalent ones they talked about was the coaching search going on at several schools. In fact, Kirk Herbstreit talked about who he might go after if he were at Tennessee.
"I would personally target Chip Kelly. If you've got a chance to target Chip Kelly, I would do that to see if he's a viable candidate. I think December 20, the first time we've had an early signing period. These ADs feel a sense of urgency like never before. They don't want to lose out of Chip Kelly, Scott Frost, Dan Mullen whoever it is. It's an interesting cat and mouse game with things at play."
This is certainly different than the Gruden rumors we've been hearing ever since Butch Jones' hot seat blew up on him. Like Gruden, Kelly could be hired at any point since he is not locked into a contract with a school and could get out of his current one with ESPN fairly easily. However, Kelly is considered the front runner for the Florida job as of now.
Herbstreit also said earlier in the week that Kelly would be '1,000 percent fit' in the SEC so him saying that Tennessee is a good landing spot isn't surprising.
