Phil Fulmer is getting back to his coaching roots to make Tennessee 'great again'

Oh really now?

Phil Fulmer is the new athletic director at Tennessee, but it appears that he is getting back in touch with his coaching and recruiting roots. In an interview with Volquest, Fulmer said that he's actually passed his recruiting test and is willing to get on the road to recruit.

"I hired (Pruitt) and the next day he's got six coaches here out recruiting. I passed my test, so I'm ready to hit the road here for a little bit. I've made a lot of phone calls. So there's a sense of urgency about (Pruitt) all the time."

"I want (Tennessee) to be great again. It's energized me," Fulmer said. "I've enjoyed lots of things about not coaching, but you like to compete. We've really got a great opportunity in front of us. We've probably tripled the number of guys that we're looking at. I like the way we're going about it."

It remains to be seen if Fulmer will be so willing to recruit for new coach Jeremy Pruitt once Pruitt gets his staff together and the early signing period finishes. However, it certainly has to help for now that Fulmer is stepping in and making some calls at the very least. I doubt the administration would want him on recruiting trips though since he does have other duties as the AD right now.
