Florida State softball has a history of producing incredible athletes who make spectacular plays. Jessie Warren gave us one of the best defensive plays in Women's College World Series when she laid out for a double play catch in FSU's national championship-capturing final game.
Years later, Warren may have competition for the program's greatest defensive play. That's because infielder Josie Muffley decided to say "screw gravity!" and pull off a jaw-dropping tag that left social media turning heads.

Florida State University beat the Memphis Tigers, 3-2, at the JoAnne Graf Classic this past Saturday in Tallahassee, Florida. The Seminoles managed just three hits, but the play everyone couldn't stop talking about afterward was what took place in the third inning.
A Memphis runner attempted to steal and catcher Anna Shelnutt fired down to second base where shortstop Josie Muffley stood. The throw tailed high and took her slightly toward first base, but that didn't stop the junior defensive wizard from making a leaping, through-the-legs tag to nab the runner.
Seriously, I'm not even sure Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez could've done that.
After the game, Muffley returned to a flurry on social media. One user raved about her athleticism. Others called for ESPN to put the play on its SportsCenter Top 10. She went on to thank one of her coaches. So humble!

The umpire making the call ruled her safe, but replay showed Muffley tagged her out with plenty of room to spare. Unfortunately, though, the runner ultimately remained on second.
Still, we're not going to let a blown call stop us from writing about this wicked play. FSU wound up winning the game but it was Josie Muffley who won the day. I can't wait to see what she pulls off next.
