According to TMZ, Woods has now been charged with driving under the influence, along with refusing to take a chemical or physical test. Both charges are misdemeanors.

The charges stem from a March 27 incident that left many stunned.

Authorities say Woods was driving at a high rate of speed when he struck another vehicle and ultimately rolled his Range Rover. The other driver, a pickup truck owner, was reportedly turning into a driveway when the collision occurred.

Officers on the scene said Woods showed "severe signs of impairment." They also reported finding two hydrocodone pills in his possession.

In the days after the crash, Woods addressed the situation publicly.

"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," he said.

Woods added that he would be stepping away to focus on his health and recovery.

"I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health," he said. "This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."

He also asked for privacy for himself and his family as he begins that process.

Woods, one of the most recognizable athletes in the world, has faced adversity before. Now, he finds himself in another difficult chapter, one that extends beyond the golf course.
