Scottie Scheffler Dominates Masters; Win Puts Him In Elite Company

For most of Sunday, it looked the like only person who might keep Scottie Scheffler from winning his second Masters title in three years was his wife.

But alas, she has yet to give birth to their child (at least, as of this writing), and Scheffler torched the green on the back nine, finishing with finished with a score of 11 under at Augusta National Golf Club, enabling him to stave off the likes of Ludvig ?...berg and Collin Morikawa.

Scheffler reportedly would have withdrawn from the tournament had his wife gone into labor. That could happen any day now — but it didn't on Sunday, and the No. 1 player in the world became the first player to win two Masters in three years since Bubba Watson did it in 2012 and '14.

Scheffler recorded a 4-under 68 over the final 18 holes to beat Aberg by 4 strokes.

Last year at this time, Aberg was playing at Texas Tech. On Sunday, he was attempting to become the first golfer to win the Masters in his debut since Fuzzy Zoeller did way back in 1979.

But Scheffler, 27, was just too doggone good, and that's been the story a lot lately.

"I feel like I'm playing really good golf right now," Scheffler told reporters. "I feel like I'm in control of my emotions as I've ever been, which is a good place to be. I feel like I'm maturing as a person on the golf course, which is a good place to be.

"I think it's hard to argue with the results of the last few weeks. I've been playing some nice golf. But I really try to not focus too much on the past."

ESPN wrote:

"The 27-year-old captured the Players Championship last month, and his subsequent victory Sunday put him in elite company. Only five golfers have ever won the Players and a major in the same calendar year. Scheffler additionally joins Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only players to have multiple victories at both the Players and the Masters.

"Scheffler paced well ahead of his competition. ?...berg finished in second with a score of 7 under, making Scheffler the fifth player in Masters history to win multiple green jackets by 3-plus shots."
