The crash occurred at approximately 2 p.m. ET on Friday, but details remained scarce in the immediate aftermath. The Martin County Sheriff's Office then held a press conference and provided more details.

"The individual driving that Land Rover was able to crawl out the passenger door of the car and was identified to be Mr. Tiger Woods," said Sheriff John Budensiek to reporters. "Our DUI investigators came to the scene here, and Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment.

"They did several tests on him — of course, he did explain the injuries and the surgeries that he had — we did take that into account. But they did do some in-depth roadside tests, and when it was determined, he was placed under arrest and taken to the Martin County Jail."

Sheriff Budensiek said that a pressure cleaner truck pulling a trailer traveled northbound on South Beach Road. He said that the pressure cleaner truck went to pull into a driveway when the driver looked in the mirror and saw a dark-colored Land Rover overtaking him at high speeds.

"I don't know those speeds," Sheriff Budensiek said. "The Land Rover kept overtaking him, (the driver) saw it coming, so he tried to edge off to the side of the road, but this is a small two-lane road and there is no shoulder for this pressure cleaner gentleman to get off the side of the road.

"As he was trying to move to the side of the road, the Land Rover overtook him, swerved at the last minute to avoid a collision, but clipped the back end of the trailer of the pressure cleaner apparatus. (The SUV) listed to the side and then rolled on the driver's side."

Sheriff Budensiek also said that Woods appeared to be "lethargic" when he was found. He avoided injury in the rollover crash. He reportedly took a breathalyzer but refused to submit a urine sample.

The 50-year-old must remain in jail for eight hours before he can be released on bail. He faces misdemeanor charges of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
