In a statement posted to Instagram, the 48-year-old said she recently received the diagnosis and is now working with doctors on a treatment plan.

"While this isn't news anyone expects, I'm working closely with my medical team," Vanessa wrote, adding that she recently underwent a medical procedure earlier this week.

Vanessa also thanked family and friends for their support as she focuses on recovery.

"I am staying focused and hopeful while surrounded by the love and support of my family, my kids, and those closest to me," she wrote.

Vanessa shares five children with her ex-husband, Donald Trump Jr., including daughter Kai and sons Donald III, Tristan and Spencer, along with daughter Chloe.

Among those publicly supporting her was Ivanka Trump, who commented on the post: "Praying for your continued strength and a swift recovery."

The announcement also comes during a turbulent stretch personally for Vanessa's boyfriend, Tiger Woods.

Woods recently returned home to Florida after completing a six-week treatment program overseas following legal and personal issues tied to a car crash and DUI-related charges earlier this year. According to reports, Woods pleaded not guilty in March to DUI-related charges and refusal to submit to a urine test.

Sources close to the couple recently told PEOPLE that Woods and Vanessa remain serious about their relationship and have leaned heavily on each other through recent challenges.

"Vanessa and Tiger are in love," one source said, adding that she has been supportive throughout Woods' recovery process.
