Oscar Smith (VA) High School has been a dominating 94-7 during the regular season over the past 10-plus seasons and is seeking its fourth-straight state title game appearance. Now, their usual pregame entrance has become a viral sensation.
"The Tiger Cage" entrance started under former coach Richard Morgan, and the tradition has continued with head coach Scott Johnson at the helm. So, when the Tigers' season kicked off on Saturday, it naturally returned, and it made so many people outside of Chesapeake, Virginia extra ready for football.
With dark clouds looming over the field on 1994 Tiger Drive, sirens went off, the music dropped, and it sparked one of the best pregame entrances you'll see all season.
Having players climb the cage is one thing. Hearing the players hype each other up over sirens is another. But when that music dropped, man, those players got everyone going, and then they ran onto the field with more loud music, smoke, and lights.
It's quite the scene and is likely rather intimidating for opponents to see.
As for the game, Oscar Smith racked up 471 yards of total offense and completely dismantled West Forsyth (NC) High School, 41-26, to start the season.
Tigers quarterback Cam'Ron Kelley finished with 186 total yards (146 passing and 40 rushing) with two touchdowns, while running back Joe Bray had 14 carries for 134 yards and two scores of his own.
Kelly, a recent Auburn commit to be a safety, broke down the win with Virginia Pilot reporter Kyle Hampson:
Oscar Smith's defense held West Forsyth to just 16 rushing yards and 168 passing yards.
Will the Tigers return to the Virginia Class 6 state championship game? Only time will tell, but you better believe "The Tiger Cage" is going to keep getting attention throughout the 2018 season.
