Chicago Cubs player Alex Bregman took a baseball to the face on Sunday, and he responded in an interesting manner after being treated.

The veteran player took some selfies showing his injured face, and he provided some updates about his health condition.

The incident occurred the fourth inning of Sunday's 9-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Bregman waited in the on-deck circle as teammate Michael Busch took pitches from Luis Mey.
Busch half-swung at one pitch from Mey, and he made contact. This sent the ball directly toward the on-deck circle. It slammed into Bregman's face at a high rate of speed and led to him immediately doubling over in pain.
The trainers tended to Bregman before taking him into the dugout and then to a local hospital for X-rays and a CT scan. The game continued with Matt Shaw stepping in as the pinch hitter.

ESPN's Jeff Passan has reported that the third baseman has multiple facial fractures. He will not undergo surgery. Instead, he will aim to recover in time for the postseason.
"(Bregman) had a cut under his eye," Cubs manager Craig Counsell said after the game. "He was bleeding from his nose a little bit. It's pretty swollen. It was below the eye.
"I honestly thought it hit him in the nose. I thought he had a broken nose, but I knew it hit him somewhere in the face. It's just an unfortunate accident. I'm hoping and praying he is all right."
Bregman is currently in his first season with the Cubs. The veteran spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Astros, and he won two World Series. He then spent the 2025 season with the Red Sox while earning All-Star honors for the third time in his career.
Bregman joined the Cubs this season and became an immediate contributor. He has appeared in 153 games while hitting 26 home runs and accounting for 89 RBIs. He has scored 89 runs.
