The Norris family announced the news on Friday with a post on Instagram. They noted that Norris was surrounded by his family and at peace at the end of his life. The family asked for privacy as they grieve.

This passing followed a sudden hospitalization in Hawaii, which occurred earlier in the week. The family confirmed the hospitalization but did not provide further details.

"It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning," the statement said. "While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.

"To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.

"He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.

"While our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the life he lived and for the unforgettable moments we were blessed to share with him. The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him, and our family is truly thankful for it. To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends."

While Norris built a career with his roles in film and television, he became an icon for many due to his love of martial arts. He first began training in Korea while serving in the military, and he continued upon returning to the United States.

Norris invented two types of martial arts during his career, including Chun Kuk Do. He also earned a black belt in several different styles of martial arts. He became the first Westerner to earn an 8th-degree black belt in Taekwondo.

Of course, one of his biggest achievements, as he said during a trip to Texas Motor Speedway, was creating Kickstart Kids. This charitable organization "teaches character through karate to empower youth with core values, such as discipline and respect." Kickstart Kids has supported more than 120,000 kids since its inception.
