Former NBA forward Chris Bosh is opening up about a frightening health scare, saying he "almost dropped dead" earlier this year after suffering another pulmonary embolism.

Speaking with HoopsHype, the 42-year-old said he was hospitalized for a week after experiencing the life-threatening medical emergency in January.
"I had an episode in January," Bosh said. "I almost dropped dead pretty much and came back to life. I'm not joking."
Bosh, whose NBA career was cut short because of recurring blood clot issues, said the experience reinforced the importance of staying on top of his treatment.
"I had another pulmonary embolism," he said. "I was in the hospital for a week. But, take your medicine. So, I'm taking my medicine every day, taking care of myself every day and watching it."
The two-time NBA champion shared his story while offering advice to San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, who missed significant time after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his shoulder during the 2025 season.
"Take your medicine," Bosh said when asked what advice he would give the young star. "Make sure that he's staying on top of his regimen to make sure that doesn't happen again because it only takes one more time."
Bosh's own playing career ended prematurely because of complications from blood clots, forcing the 11-time All-Star into retirement despite remaining one of the NBA's elite big men.
Now, years after stepping away from the game, Bosh hopes sharing his latest health scare will encourage others facing similar medical issues to remain vigilant.
"It's only takes one more time," he said. "Take your medicine."
