ESPN's Shams Charania provided the update during an appearance on Get Up. He cited sources, who said that a trade and "a resolution" is coming for the Milwaukee Bucks, the team with which Giannis has spent 13 years. The Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat are the two teams currently in contention for his services.

"The Bucks are in serious conversation with two finalists, the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics," Charania said. "Both teams are Giannis' preferred trade destinations, but both of these packages are different deals."

The package from the Celtics reportedly involved five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown. If the Bucks agree to this trade, the two teams will swap prominent NBA players.

The Heat, for comparison, have reportedly "offered players on cost-controlled contracts and significant draft capital to the Bucks" in exchange for Giannis.

The 15th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Giannis has spent his entire career in Milwaukee. He has captured every major team record while averaging 24.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 5.8 free throws.

He has led the league field goals three times and two-pointers five times. He has won MVP twice and been named All-Star 10 times. He has also won Defensive Player of the Year once. He won NBA Finals MVP in 2020-21 as the Bucks defeated the Suns to claim the title.

Giannis' future has remained a topic of conversation since May 2025. He expressed a desire to find a new home, which included the Knicks. However, the Bucks kept him in the building, which led to a fractured relationship.

This past season, Giannis only played in 36 games last season due to injuries. He also prompted a league investigation into the Bucks shutting him down for the rest of the season due to a knee injury.
