On the latest episode of his show, Funky Friday, Newton interviewed Royce Reed, who previously dated Howard.

That is, many believe the purpose of Newton having her on was to question the 8x All-Star's sexual preferences.

As he started things off by asking Reed, "Is he gay?"

Among those who criticized Newton, included J.R. Smith, who called out the QB on Instagram.

"Respectfully this is hella corny @cam bringing on a black woman to kill a black man is never cool don't care who's right or wrong. All clickbait ain't good clickbait. This ain't love."

Newton responded to J.R., "Call it what you want respectfully... I don't go back n forth in no comment... I ain't hard to find sir..."

In view of the rumors surrounding Dwight, he previously has spoken to the national media about the accusations, candidly saying, "I'm not gay."

J.R. Smith having Dwight Howard's back makes sense, as they were teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers' 2020 championship team.

Even more they came into the league together, entering the 2004 NBA Draft out of high school after being named co-MVP's at the 2004 McDonald's All-American game.

Many others have sided with Smith, as this news surrounding Dwight initially broke 5+ years ago, and many feel Newton is only making the situation messier by rehashing the accusations.
