NBA Reporter Shams Charania's Screen Time Is Insanely High

Many know Shams Charania as the NBA reporter who breaks the news to everyone, before anyone else (besides sometimes Adrian Wojnarowski). As a result of his relentless goal to get the NBA inside scoop out first, Shams like his counterpart Woj, evidently has one of the all-time records for highest "screen time," which measures how many hours a day one is on their phone.

As most people feel ashamed to have a high "screen time," Shams wears it as a badge of honor, as this is what he is known for.

That is to say, during NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, the sportswriter, who found himself being the interviewee and not the interviewer for a change, let everyone get a glimpse at how long he actually looks at his phone.

On July 1, the first day of free agency, Shams actually recorded 21 hours and 34 minutes of screen time, which means he seemingly isn't sleeping too long and probably needs to have a charger on him at all times.

With this in mind, it is important to consider that this is the busiest time of the year in NBA reporting, as free agency brings about many news updates regarding players signing with new teams. Nevertheless, Shams previously also spoke about his screen time last year, stating that on a normal day, he logs 17+ hours per day.

Taking a look into how it all started, Shams began his journalism career at the age of 17, when as a Chicago native, he covered the Bulls back in 2011 for the Chicago Tribune. Then, in 2012 he started writing for RealGM, where he got the attention of the best of the best, as interestingly enough, Wojnarowski actually discovered Shams and got him a job working for Yahoo. That is to say, from the time period of 2015-2018, Shams was the national NBA Insider for Yahoo Sports.

Now fast forward to where he is currently at in his career, 30-year-old Shams has his plate full every day as the senior lead NBA Insider for The Athletic and NBA analyst for Stadium, in addition to being the co-host on the FanDuel TV show Run It Back.

Certainly, his effort doesn't go unnoticed, as many fans follow Shams and rely on him for the latest news in the NBA, whether that's trade/free agency transactions or just rumors around the league. In view of this, most guys get more notifications from Shams on their phone throughout the day than they do their own girlfriend.
