In fact, most rookies believe that No. 5 pick Kris Dunn will take home the award. He earned 29 percent of the vote while Brandon Ingram was second with 25.8 percent and Simmons third with 19.4 percent. It's an interesting proposition considering Ricky Rubio is the starter in Minnesota and likely isn't relinquishing that duty unless traded.

This season marks the fourth in a row that the No. 1 pick was not chosen to be named the Rookie of the Year. The last two actual ROYs were the top picks in Andrew Wiggins (2014-15 season) and Karl-Anthony Towns (2015-16 season). Dunn played three years at Providence and was named Big East Player of the Year and the conference's Defensive Player of the Year twice.
