Washington Redskins safety Su'a Cravens, who reportedly considered early retirement following a career-threatening injury in September, has officially filed to be removed from the reserve/left squad list the franchise placed him on last season in an attempt to be reinstated by the NFL, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Cravens had reportedly told some within the organization that he planned on retiring. However, following a meeting with the team's coaches and executives shortly after, the 22-year-old seemed to have changed his mind.
Cravens, who tweaked his knee in August, missed the entire 2017 season. He also dealt with prior concussion problems. The former second round pick is one of the NFL's youngest players and has struggled with the transition to the NFL, despite a solid rookie campaign on the field.
The former USC standout recorded 34 tackles, one sack and one interception in 2016, appearing in 11 games and making three starts.
Cravens would have been one of the youngest players in NFL history to retire had he gone through with his reported initial decision.
