Super Bowl LVIII was scoreless through the first quarter, that is, until 49ers kicker Jake Moody made history on the second second snap of the second quarter.

When Moody split the uprights, with plenty of leg to spare, on a 55-yard field goal to give the San Francisco 49ers a 3-0 lead, he set the record for the longest field goal in Super Bowl history.

Prior to Moody's Super Bowl LVIII record-setter, Buffalo Bills kicker Steve Christie held the record, with a 54-yard field goal in XXVIII.
Moody, 24, was chosen by the 49ers in the first-round of the 2023 NFL Draft and went on to finish his rookie campaign with an 84 percent field goal percentage, while posting 123 total points. During his rookie campaign, Moody missed just one field goal, finishing the season 60-of-61, good for the best in the league.
Ahead of the Super Bowl, Moody missed a field goal try in each of the 49ers' postseason games, against the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Packers, but addressed those misses head on leading up to the Super Bowl.
"It's no different than in college," Moody said, according to NFL.com. "The posts are the same size. Ball is the same. Holder and snapper are just as good, if not better in the NFL. Situationally, I guess it can be a little bit different. There's a lot more games that are decided by one or two scores as opposed to college. ... It's something that you learn, just being in those situations, you kind of learn how to deal with it, mindset."
In a game where, at least early on, points were at a premium, Moody made his presence felt in the Super Bowl.
