According to NFL insiders, the Denver Broncos are sending multiple draft picks to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the former Alabama receiver. This includes first-, third-, and fourth-round picks in this year's NFL Draft.

In exchange, the Broncos will receive Waddle and a fourth-round pick in this year's NFL Draft. The completion of the trade is pending a physical.

The sixth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Waddle landed with the Dolphins and became an integral part of the offense. He has started all 78 games for which he has been healthy, and he has delivered three 1,000-yard seasons. He led the NFL in yards-per-reception (18.1) during the 2022 season.

The last two campaigns have featured the Dolphins dealing with upheaval at the quarterback position. Tua Tagovailoa missed six games in 2024 and three games last season while the Dolphins started Tyler Huntley, Skylar Thompson, and Quinn Ewers. The team also lost receiver Tyreek Hill to a significant knee injury last season.

Waddle's numbers dipped during these two seasons. He only posted 744 yards and two touchdowns in 2024. He bumped his numbers to 910 yards and six touchdowns last season while leading the team.

Waddle will now depart the Dolphins after five seasons and head to a Super Bowl contender via trade. The 14-3 Broncos came within one game of Super Bowl 60 last season but ultimately fell to the Patriots in the AFC championship.

Quarterback Bo Nix missed the game due to an injury while backup Jarrett Stidham only led the team on one scoring drive. This 10-7 loss occurred as heavy snowfall hit the Denver area.

The trade pairs Waddle with another 1,000-yard receiver, Courtland Sutton, who has spent eight seasons in the Broncos offense. The receiving corps also features Troy Franklin, who delivered 709 yards in his second season with the team.
