Mark Andrews Saved a Woman’s Life On a Plane

Just days after his season fizzled to a disappointing finish, Baltimore Ravens standout tight end Mark Andrews helped save a woman's life during a Southwest Airlines flight.

According to an X thread from a passenger on the flight (which has since been confirmed by multiple sources), Andrews was flying via Southwest Airlines from Baltimore to Phoenix on Thursday morning, when a female passenger suffered a medical emergency mid-flight.

Medical personnel on the flight went to assist the passenger, who said that they couldn't find a strong pulse and that she likely needed auxiliary oxygen.

At this point, a man seated nearby — who ended up being Mark Andrews — stood up and asked the medical professionals, "Could her blood sugar be low? I have a diabetic testing kit."

Andrews proceeded to pull out his test kit on the flight and show the medical personnel how to use it.

Sure enough, after Andrews' test kit was put to use, the woman was given orange juice to drink, her heart rate stabilized, and she began feeling better. Paramedics were able to treat her when the flight landed.

While Andrews left quietly after the flight landed in Phoenix, he later issued a statement through the Ravens' X account, which read, "In addition to the fast-acting flight attendants, the real heroes are the nurse and doctor who also happened to be on the plane. Thankfully they were able to provide the woman the quick assistance she needed."

There's no question that the flight attendants and medical personnel were heroes in this scary situation, and deserve a ton of praise.

Yet, Andrews — who is a Type 1 diabetic, vocal advocate for diabetes, and who went viral in November for discussing with a Ravens staff member during a game about having to check his blood sugar every time he comes off the field — taking quick action to potentially save this woman's life alongside the medical professionals and flight attendants is certainly heroic in its own right.

This miraculous story is just another example that so many professional athletes are not only inspiring people with their athletic performance, but are also admirable citizens in their everyday lives.

Bravo to both Andrews and everybody else who took action on that Southwest Airlines flight.
