The Baltimore Ravens have made a pair of roster moves ahead of the start of training camp. The team has waived Heisman Trophy finalist Diego Pavia.

According to the NFL team, they waived Pavia to make room for veteran center Ethan Pocic on the 90-man roster. Pavia had joined the Ravens as an undrafted rookie free agent so that he could compete for a spot on the depth chart during spring training.
The former Vanderbilt quarterback competed with Skylar Thompson and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano out of Connecticut. He did not beat out either quarterback.
The Ravens already have Lamar Jackson locked in as the starter. Tyler Huntley is back as the veteran backup after agreeing to a new two-year, $5 million contract with the AFC North team.
Pavia spent his college career split between two teams. He spent his freshman and sophomore seasons with New Mexico State in 2022 and 2023.
He threw for 4,423 yards and 39 touchdowns. He added 1,431 yards and 13 touchdowns on rushing plays, and he won Conference USA Offensive player of the Year in 2023.
Pavia moved to Vanderbilt for his junior and senior seasons in 2024 and 2025, and he continued producing big plays. Last season alone, he led the SEC by completing 70.6% of his throws. He led the conference with 29 passing touchdowns and a passing efficiency rating of 170.4.
Vanderbilt went 10-3 as Pavia threw for more than 3,500 yards and rushed for 862 yards with 10 touchdowns. He generated Heisman Trophy buzz while producing big plays for the SEC school.
He ultimately fell short of the prestigious award; National Championship-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the Heisman before becoming the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Pavia finished second in the voting, and then he went undrafted. Now, he will have to move forward and try to find another opportunity after being waived by the Baltimore Ravens.
