The team issued a statement on Monday evening and said that "Coach Mac" had died from an illness that hospitalized him in early March.
McGinnis spent 30 years as a coach in the NFL while working for multiple organizations. He spent time with the Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, and the Los Angeles Rams while holding various positions.
Coach Mac spent time as a linebackers coach, defensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and as a head coach. He guided the Arizona Cardinals between 2000-2003 while leading the team to a record of 17-40.
His time in Chicago featured him coaching under Hall of Famer Mike Ditka. It was during this tenure that he worked with such prominent players as Mike Singletary, Wilber Marshall, and Otis Wilson.
McGinnis, who coached eight Hall of Famers in his career, truly built up a fanbase in 2017 and beyond when he joined Titans Radio as a gameday color analyst. He remained in this position through 2025 while breaking down the action on the field for the fans. He provided a unique vibe for the listeners, one that they appreciated.
This time on the radio marked a reunion for Coach Mac, who had spent eight seasons working under Jeff Fisher as a linebackers coach in Tennessee.
"I love Dave McGinnis, and I don't know that I've met anybody who was created for football, and a football life, more than Coach Mac," said Burke Nihill, President and CEO of the Titans, in a statement.
"He just loved the game. Obviously, he played it for a long time and coached it for longer, and with everything he has done for us over the years as color commentator and a Titans personality. He lived such a special football life. He was such a special guy."
