"Seeing a lot people mentioning me going to the Chiefs," Cassel, 43, posted on X on Sunday night. "Arm's loose. Phone line's open."

This post followed the Chiefs losing their second quarterback to a knee injury in as many weeks. The AFC West team first lost Patrick Mahomes to a torn ACL one week ago during a loss to the Chargers. They then lost backup Gardner Minshew to a knee injury against the Titans.

These injuries forced third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun into action against the Titans. He will likely remain the starter on Christmas night against the Broncos unless the Chiefs bring in another option.

Cassel hasn't played since the 2018 season when he appeared in two games for the Broncos, but he has extensive experience playing for the Chiefs. He spent four seasons with the AFC West team while starting 47 of the 48 games in which he played.

Cassel posted an overall record of 19-28 during his time with the Chiefs, but he went 10-5 as a starter in 2010 while throwing for 3,116 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He earned his only trip to the Pro Bowl that season while working under head coach Todd Haley.

The 2010 Chiefs had some prominent playmakers on offense, albeit fewer than the modern-day Chiefs. Running back Jamaal Charles rushed for more than 1,400 yards and five touchdowns while receiver Dwayne Bowe accounted for more than 1,100 yards and 15 receiving touchdowns. Backup running back Thomas Jones accounted for 896 yards and six touchdowns.

The former USC quarterback started and ended his career as a backup, but he delivered several wins for multiple teams.

He led the Patriots to a 10-5 record in 2008 while replacing an injured Tom Brady, and he went 4-5 while making sporadic starts for the Vikings in 2013-14. Cassel even showed off his dual-threat abilities by launching a punt 57 yards as a member of the Patriots.

Cassel enjoyed some particularly productive performances while suiting up for the Vikings. This includes a 34-27 win over the Steelers in London where he threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns in what was his first start of the season.

Cassel also threw for 382 yards and two touchdowns during a 48-30 win over the favored Eagles. He accounted for another touchdown as a runner.
