For a professional athlete who is rewarded with jewelry, you would think Patrick Mahomes would ace the Met Gala. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is known for his flashy play and Super Bowl-winning skills. However, at Monday's Met Gala alongside his wife, Brittany Mahomes, the NFL star and MVP probably should have called an audible.

With other athletes such as Serena Williams, Brittney Griner (and her wife, Cherelle) and Dwyane Wade showing up and showing off — following the Met Gala 2023 theme of "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty" — Mahomes failed to inspire on the Met Gala red carpet. His black suit — a Hugo Boss tuxedo paired with black sunglasses — fell flat. In all honestly, with the pair's love of Chanel well documented, this feels like something you'd see at the ESPYs. Actually, this feels like a safe bet at the ESPYs. Simply put, we saw better looks at the NFL Draft.
However, while her husband was giving "Pete Davidson goes to his high school prom" vibes or "special occasion date night" chic, Brittany Matthews Mahomes looked stunning in her white dress. It's one of fashion's biggest nights, and this white gown nailed the theme across the board.
To be fair, this was the couple's first time at the Met Gala, and making a Met Gala debut is hard. Mahomes had sat behind QB Alex Smith before taking the reins of the Chiefs' offense. But then again, when actor/musician Jared Leto is dressed in a full cat costume, you need to up your game. This is the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, Patrick. Live a little! Tennis legend Roger Federer had a better look than you, and you both wore the same thing.
When showing up to an event attended by Kim Kardashian, Penelope Cruz, Kendall Jenner, Dua Lipa, Gisele Bundchen and Anna Wintour, you need to up your game. This wasn't a touchdown, Patrick. But at least you left the helmet and pads at home.
