Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has provided public comments about an offseason 30-day stint in a Dallas County jail.

Rice violated the terms of his probation in May when he tested positive for THC. He served a 30-day jail sentence after being arrested and exited custody on June 16. This probation was part of Rice pleading guilty to two third-degree felony charges related to a multi-vehicle crash in Dallas in 2024.
"A learning experience. A reality check," Rice told reporters on Tuesday while making his first public comments. "Don't focus on the past. Focus on what's going on now."
The 26-year-old missed some key parts of the offseason while serving his time in jail. He did not take part in organized team activities or the mandatory minicamp.
He also did not have access to rehabilitation facilities after undergoing a cleanup procedure on his right knee. This extended his recovery timeline as he remained behind bars.
"It was tough. Mentally tough," Rice said about his incarceration. "They gave me ways to communicate with my teammates still, as well as my athletic trainer.
"Besides the hard times in there, I kept my mind right watching shows and as much Kevin Hart as I can to laugh. Then without that, just communicating with everybody on the outside."
This 30-day stay in jail was another punishment served by Rice following the crash in Dallas that left multiple people injured. He missed the first six games of the 2025 season while serving a suspension. He also paid more than $115,000 in restitution to the victims.
Now that he is back at training camp, he is continuing to recover from the offseason cleanup on his knee. He appeared to lack burst early in the program, but reports indicate that he is making progress as he prepares for a pivotal season.
The former second-round pick out of SMU is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and he will become a free agent once the new league year begins if he does not get a new deal.
Rice produced as a rookie with more than 900 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games. The last two seasons, he has only played in 12 games while posting a combined 859 yards and seven touchdowns.
