According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the former third-round draft pick is expected to return to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 14th season. He was expected to have considerable interest from other teams, but he will remain with the team that selected him back in 2013.

This news comes after Kelce, 36, posted a career-low 852 receiving yards but still made the Pro Bowl for the 11th consecutive season. The Chiefs missed the playoffs due to close losses and a significant knee injury to quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Kelce's future remained a question mark throughout the 2025 season. At times, it appeared that he would retire after the season and focus on other endeavors. Other times, it appeared that he would choose to return to the Chiefs for another go.

The perennial Super Bowl-contending team certainly made it clear that Kelce would have a home if he chose to return for the 2026 NFL season.

"Well as an organization, we certainly hope that he will come back," team owner Clark Hunt said during a January appearance on NFL Network. "He had another great year, maybe not on par with where he was four or five years ago, but still had over 800 yards, and was really one of the leaders on the offensive side of the ball for us.

"So there's no doubt in my mind that he can still play. We're trying to be respectful and let him have the time that he needs to make a decision.

"He has sort of a busy offseason coming up with his engagement and marriage, so we want to be respectful and give him the time he needs to make a decision. But we certainly hope that he'll be back."

There is no denying the impact that Kelce has made since landing with the Chiefs. He is the team's all-time leading receiver with 1,080 receptions for 13,002 yards and 82 touchdowns.

He is the only player in franchise history with more than 1,000 receptions. Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez posted 916 before heading to the Falcons to close out his career.

The expectation is that Kelce will now add on to these marks. He will reunite with the Chiefs in 2026 and continue boosting his Hall of Fame resume while trying to get the team back to the Super Bowl.
