An arrest warrant has been issued for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk following an investigation into an incident that occurred last year.

According to ESPN, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's office issued an arrest warrant on the misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speeding. This warrant references an incident in December 2025 in which Aiyuk posted a video of himself driving over 100 mph past Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The Santa Clara Police Department then confirmed that it was aware of the video of Aiyuk in a Cadillac CTS-V Blackwing Edition. The department said it would further investigate the incident, and then the 49ers receiver issued an apology on his YouTube channel.

"Sorry y'all, my car content won't come with speeding anymore," Aiyuk wrote in a message. "Was praying with my son tonight and wouldn't want anybody else to miss out on an opportunity to do the same with their loved ones. My apologies."

This speeding incident only served as the latest example of a deteriorating situation in the Bay Area of California. Aiyuk, once a prominent part of the offense, did not play at all last season while recovering from ACL and MCL injuries.

He remained away from the 49ers while the team voided more than $25 million in guaranteed money from his contract. The team cited a lack of communication and missed rehabilitation sessions.

The 49ers have already made it clear that Aiyuk's time with the team is over. General manager John Lynch said it "was safe to say" that the receiver had played his last snap there. He expressed some confusion about the situation reached that point. Although a holdout ahead of the 2024 season certainly played a role in the eventual breakup.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan also called the situation confusing, but he acknowledged that the relationship had ended.

"That's something I've never seen in 22 years of coaching," Shanahan said in January. "It's unfortunate. It's confusing for all of us. But eventually you understand it's not going to change, and you've got to move on with your football team."

Aiyuk is still technically a member of the team. He is under contract through the 2028 season. The 49ers have tried to find a trade partner, but this has not happened. Now that it is past June 1, the team can release him and split up the dead cap money over two years.
