The NFL stadium will no longer have the "GEHA Field" lettering on its exterior. Construction crews have removed the sponsor branding as part of larger makeover efforts for the upcoming World Cup, which begins on June 11.

Why must these stadiums replace their sponsor logos? Apparently, soccer's governing body requires that all of these participating stadiums remove pre-existing branding. They must also go by different names during the World Cup.

For example, Mercedes-Benz Stadium will have the name of Atlanta Stadium during the soccer tournament. MetLife Stadium will become New York New Jersey Stadium. SoFi Stadium will become Los Angeles Stadium.

The removal of logos extends to the arena rooftops. Although Mercedes-Benz Stadium will still have the massive logo on the roof after reaching a deal with FIFA. No method existed for covering or removing the logo without damaging the roof of the NFL stadium.

The removal of sponsor logos is not the only work being completed in the weeks leading up to the start of the soccer tournament. The participating NFL stadiums must also widen their field surfaces to accommodate the FIFA standards.

The soccer pitches must be 68 meters by 105 meters (74.4 by 114.8 yards). The standard NFL field width is 53.3 yards wide. According to The Athletic, this means that some of these stadiums had to cut into their concrete structures and replace the permanent grandstands with demountable bleachers.
