Arthur Marshall, a former wide receiver for the University of Georgia who went on to play in the NFL, has passed away at the age of 57.

The Georgia native passed away on Wednesday after a battle with stomach cancer. His high school team, the Hephzibah High School Rebels, have announced that they will play in his memory on Friday night as they take on Laney High School.

A four-year player at the University of Georgia between 1988-91, Marshall suited up at wide receiver for the Bulldogs. He played in 33 games during his college tenure, and he caught 67 passes for 1,186 yards and four touchdowns.
Marshall went undrafted in 1992, but he landed with the Denver Broncos and played in all 16 regular-season games. He caught 26 passes for 493 yards and one touchdown as the team went 8-8.
The Georgia native remained with the Broncos in 1993, and he added another 28 receptions for 360 yards and two touchdowns. He then spent the final three seasons of his NFL career (1994-96) with the New York Giants while catching 33 passes for 414 yards and one touchdown.
Marshall returned to the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) after the end of his NFL career, and he spent time making an impact on his community. According to Fox 54, he coached at Hephzibah High School and supported the area through financial gifts.
His alma mater ultimately inducted him into the school's Hall of Fame in 2023.
"I think the biggest thing is just kind of looking at the program that you come from, basically just showing that no matter where you come from, you can have the opportunity to make it to the highest level and compete at the highest level," Hephzibah head coach Daniel Dorsey told Fox 54.
"From Hepzibah, Georgia, Hepzibah High School to University of Georgia all the way to the NFL, I think that speaks volumes to who he is and the mountains that you can climb if you just put your mind to it."
