No one know who will earn this coveted spot, but one group has openly campaigned for an opportunity. The Backstreet Boys are willing and able.

"I had this idea where if we could get Christina Aguilera, and then I think the irony — but also, in my mind, genius — would be to have Blink 182," AJ McLean said. "Because back in the day when we were battling it out on TRL, they made fun of us in All the Small Things video.

"Predominantly us. It wasn't just us, it was us, NSYNC, and 98 Degrees. But, I've become friends with those guys. Travis Barker is actually my neighbor. ... I think it would be kind of legendary to have Travis Barker up there, ripping it up, playing Backstreet's Back and maybe having all of us up there singing All the Small Things together."

McLean said he will keep putting out the thought and manifesting Backstreet Boys as the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Howie Dorough chimed in and said that his ideal lineup would be Backstreet Boys, Coldplay, and Bruno Mars.

The idea of Backstreet Boys performing during the Super Bowl Halftime Show could seem like a throwback, but this group continues to draw in massive crowds.

After all, they are currently enjoying an "Into The Millennium" residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, one that brings in approximately between 17,000-20,000. This residency will continue throughout the summer, and it will set up a massive headlining event.

Once the calendar turns to November, the Backstreet Boys will return to the Sphere. They will headline the concert that takes place after the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix on Nov. 21.

The group will perform at this celebrity-studded event. What happens after remains unknown, but McLean and co. will continue to hope for an opportunity to perform for NFL fans.
