New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been rumored to be close to retiring, but it turns out that is not quite accurate. At least according to a report from SI’s Albert Breer from a piece he did in the Monday Morning Quarterback. Here’s the passage where he mentions Belichick’s future with the team:

Asked about the idea that Belichick could be on his way out, one Patriots source said that based on the work he’s been doing on the draft and free agency, “He’s certainly not acting like he’s leaving anytime soon.”

While Belichick and the Patriots did just lose Super Bowl LII, that apparently isn’t enough for him to want to ride out into the sunset just yet. Convincing Josh McDaniels to spurn the Colts head coaching job may also be a sign that he wants to stick around and that he could make him the heir apparent.

Belichick of course, is one of the most decorated coaches in NFL history as he has over 275 total wins, including 28 alone in the postseason. He’s won five Super Bowls as a head coach — another two as a defensive coordinator — and has been named the AP NFL Coach of the Year three times.
