Ezekiel Elliot and Alfred Morris could be the best running back tandem that Jason Garrett has ever had in Dallas.

That's according to Cowboys beat writer Jeff Sullivan, who says the rookie and the five-year veteran not only fit perfectly into Garrett's offensive scheme, the duo has a chance to become only the sixth pair of backs from the same team to both go over 1,000 yards in the same campaign. He writes:
"Elliott and Morris fit Jason Garrett's offensive scheme. In fact, as much if not more so than any draft pick and free-agent signing since he became the head coach, Garrett was vocal about these two players. For him and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan to run their ideal offense, even a more dominant version of 2014, this duo was the answer. At this point, I even think they have a chance to become the sixth pair of running backs in NFL history to each rush for 1,000 yards on the same team in the same season."
Indeed, both have had a great deal of success running the ball, albeit on different levels. At Ohio State, the 6-0, 225 pound Elliott had a habit of taking over games—-like he did as a sophomore in 2015's inaugural College Football Playoff. Elliott stunned then No. 1 Alabama in the semifinals, rushing for 230 yards and 2 scores, including a game-breaking 85-yard TD scamper. He followed that other-worldly performance by gashing Oregon for 246 yards and 4 TDs in the Buckeyes national championship victory.
Conversely, Morris rose to prominence with the Washington Redskins after a less than stellar college career at Florida Atlantic. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft, and far exceeded expectations with a solid preseason that ultimately won him the starting job. The 5-10, 222 pound workhorse eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark four out of his 5 season in the league, and could prove to be the thunder to Elliott's lightning in the Cowboy backfield.
We'll know more if Elliott, who just got back to fully participating in practice the past couple days after missing two weeks with a hamstring injury, takes the field against Seattle Thursday for what would be his first NFL action.
