Fantasy Football Guide: Week 8

Videos by FanBuzz

We have reached the point in the fantasy season where pre-season rankings become little more than a punchline. Every year, this is the week where looking back at "expert consensus" feels like a cruel joke. For instance, if Christian McCaffrey had not recorded a single rushing attempt this season, he would still be WR7 overall. He is on pace to outdo his league-winning 2023 campaign. Meanwhile, Brian Thomas Jr., who sat comfortably between 13-17 in most pre-season overall rankings, has been one of the year's biggest busts. The most frustrating part is that he continues to receive legitimate WR1 volume but cannot consistently secure catches.

The midpoint of the season separates contenders from pretenders, and every lineup decision matters. Week 7 is over, below are the starts and sits for Week 8.

Running Backs

Start: Rachaad White
Do not overreact to last week's quiet showing in a low-scoring matchup against Detroit. White has been highly effective while filling in for Bucky Irving and continues to handle both early-down and receiving work. New Orleans' defense has been soft against versatile backs, making White a solid RB2 with upside this week.

Sit: Panthers RBs (Chuba Hubbard & Rico Dowdle)
Hubbard's explosiveness remains evident, but Dowdle's breakout while Hubbard was injured has forced a frustrating timeshare. Until one of them secures consistent touches or goal-line work, both should remain on the bench except in deep leagues.

Quarterbacks

Start: Dak Prescott
It might seem odd to list an MVP candidate as a "start," but context matters. Prescott faces a Denver defense that has been excellent on paper but inconsistent against elite passing games. With CeeDee Lamb healthy and the reemergence of Ferguson and Pickens as legitimate weapons, Dak has enough firepower to overcome even a top-tier secondary. Patrick Surtain cannot cover the entire field.

Sit: Caleb Williams
The rookie's raw talent is undeniable, but fantasy production has been erratic. His last four games have yielded 29, 11, 20, and 5 points—numbers that are disastrous for managers seeking stability. Poor reads and decision-making continue to undermine his output, and facing another aggressive pass rush this week only increases the risk.

Wide Receivers

Start: Courtland Sutton
Sutton's chemistry with Bo Nix continues to develop, and despite Denver's offensive struggles, Sutton remains the most reliable target. Dallas' defense, particularly against perimeter receivers, has been suspect. Expect solid WR2 numbers and touchdown potential if Denver's offense sustains drives.

Sit: DK Metcalf
Metcalf's connection with Aaron Rodgers has shown flashes, yet inconsistency has defined his season. Green Bay's defense has been the anchor of its team, especially in coverage. In what projects as a low-scoring, defensive contest, Metcalf is better left on the bench.
