Head coach Aaron Glenn has yet to make it official, but multiple reports — including one from ESPN's Rich Cimini — say the team is "moving toward" starting Tyrod Taylor in Week 8 against the Bengals.

Justin Fields was benched at halftime of Sunday's loss to the Panthers after another sluggish outing, and the signs all point to Glenn making a switch.

Glenn declined to name a starter on Monday, insisting he was still "considering all options." But Jets owner Woody Johnson all but confirmed the direction of things when he spoke at the NFL owners meetings on Tuesday.

Johnson praised the team's defense before firing off a blunt assessment of the offense.

"It's hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that we got," Johnson said. "If we can just complete a pass."

Johnson added that the decision ultimately belongs to Glenn, but when the owner is that candid, the message is clear.

Taylor filled in for Fields earlier this season, starting in Week 3 against the Buccaneers when Fields was sidelined by a concussion. He completed 26 of 36 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns but also threw a pick-six and lost a fumble.

The Jets are 0-7 and desperate for a spark. Fields is averaging just 141 passing yards per game, and the offense has looked completely stuck.

At this point, Johnson's patience appears to be running out, and so might Fields' time as the starter.
