Johnny Manziel opens up on "mistakes" that derailed his NFL career

Johnny Manziel opened up about his past mistakes.

Johnny Manziel is making an effort to get back into football, but first he's decided to open up on the mistakes that sent him out of the NFL.

Manziel's off-the-field issues are well documented, and his excessive partying and behavior outside of football left the Cleveland Browns no choice but to release him.

Manziel was recently signed by the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and he's made it clear he wants to play in the NFL again. Now, he's admitting to his past mistakes, and he revealed on Good Morning America how he used to self-medicate with alcohol.

"I was self-medicating with alcohol because I thought that's what was making me happy and help me get out of this depression to a point where I thought I had some sense of happiness," Manziel said via SEC Country. "But at the end of the day when you wake up the next day after a night like that, or after going on a trip like that, and that's all gone? That liquid courage or that liquid sense of euphoria that's over you is all gone.

"You're left staring at the ceiling by yourself and you're back in that depression and back in that hole, that dark hole sitting in a room by yourself thinking about all the mistakes you've made in your life. What did that get me? Where did that get me except out of the NFL? Where did that get me? Disgrace?"

It's unclear if Manziel will get another shot in the NFL, but it's worth noting that he's only 25. It would make sense for him to play in the CFL and prove to teams and scouts he can still play at a high level, and perhaps he would get another shot in the league.

Manziel threw seven touchdowns and seven interceptions in two seasons with the Browns. He wants to make a comeback to the NFL, and it will be intriguing to see if any teams give him a tryout this offseason.
