Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will be facing his former team the Detroit Lions, during Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season. However, Stafford's wife has said she will not be in attendance, stating on her and Hank Winchester's "The Morning After" podcast, that she will be watching the season opener on TV this year.

The reason cited is that the game will be played at Ford Field, where she was booed last year during the NFC wildcard game back in January, when the Rams' season ended after the Lions won 24-23.

Mrs. Stafford also said another reason the family won't be making the trip is because their four daughters don't want to go back to Detroit.

"I actually asked them if they wanted to go back... and they said 'no.' So that is another reason we won't be returning for the game," Kelly said. "There's a lot that goes into it... but I just think it's the better decision for my mental health and for my daughters."
She also spoke on being happy for the Lions organization for making the playoffs, considering the 12 years when her husband was playing for the team they had one of the worst records year after year. To emphasize, they had a 31-season playoff victory drought (1993-2023), which at the time was the longest active streak out of any team in the four major North American sports.
"I have such good memories in that dome and the last memory I have wasn't that great but it was still like, I got to see Detroit play a playoff game, which was really cool. Because we never got there, a home game, right. So that was really cool for me to see."
To note, this was a highly anticipated homecoming game as the Stafford family had to move to Los Angeles, after the Lions traded the 2009 No. 1 overall pick to the Rams following the 2020 season in exchange for 2016 No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff.
Being a former Georgia cheerleader, some might remember that Mrs. Stafford made headlines earlier this year for airing out some dirty laundry.
While on the podcast she elaborated on how the nickname "cleat chaser" was given to her. For those who don't know, this stemmed from the backlash she received from comments made earlier in the summer, where she spoke about dating Stafford's backup quarterback at Georgia, when they were still in school, apparently just to make her now husband jealous.
"I was called that ["cleat chaser"] after the recent situation and I said, 'Let's lean into this,'" she said.
