Baker Mayfield Pays Off Rookie of the Year Award Bet to Saquon Barkley

It took no time at all for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield and New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley to make a splash in the NFL. Sure, their teams weren't that great, but those two players showed flashes of brilliance and signs they will be big-time stars for years to come. After all, that's why they were the top-two picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, right?

Well, the stakes got a little higher for the two first-year players. Both had strong statistical seasons and are undoubtedly the frontrunners to win The Associated Press' Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. So with that in mind, the pair of rookies decided to make "a little bet."

Not only does the winner get the trophy and bragging rights forever starting Saturday night, he will also be receiving a chain, compliments of the runner-up, according to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com.

A chain? Yes, a chain. It might not be cheap, either.

"The loser's got to get someone else a chain. We get to pick the chain and we get to have fun with it because obviously everyone's talking about who's going to win, and at the end of the day we'd love to see each other win, but we'd also love to see ourselves win too, but we made a little bet with it just to show how friendly we are that it's bigger than just the award.''

The 5-foot-11, 230-pound Barkley already has one rookie honor under his belt — taking home the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year award — after finishing second in the NFL with 1,307 rushing yards while also catching 91 passes for 721 yards and scoring 15 total touchdowns for the Giants.

While Barkley, the former Penn State star, was sensational in his rookie season, one could argue Mayfield, the former Heisman Trophy winner from Oklahoma, was just as good. The 6-foot-1 signal caller completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 3,735 yards with 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions for the Browns.

These two players are obviously good friends, especially after last year's draft. Barkley said they will actually take a trip with each other soon. Perhaps the winner of the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year will receive his prize from the bet on their vacation after Super Bowl LIII, too.

UPDATE (June 24):

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is truly a man of his word. Although it wasn't immediately, the 24-year-old signal caller paid off his bet to New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley for winning Rookie of the Year.

The loser had to buy the winner a chain, and, man, Mayfield didn't disappoint with this one. In honor of Barkley's massive legs, he is now the proud owner of a new piece of bling that says "QUADS" in shiny diamonds.

The only thing left is to find out how much Baker Mayfield spent on the new chain for SaQuads.
