According to the Lakewood Police Department, the arrest occurred on Wednesday night just after 6 p.m. ET on the 11700 block of Clifton Blvd. Jail records show that the police took Lattimore into custody for carrying concealed weapons. They later released the 29-year-old pending further investigation.
19 News reports that Lakewood Police pulled over a car for expired plates. Lattimore, a passenger in the vehicle, did not "disclose" a firearm when asked. Improperly handling firearms is a felony offense.
Lakewood Police Capt. Gary Stone told the news outlet that this is an ongoing investigation and that the prosecutor is currently reviewing it.
"We have been made aware of the arrest and are gathering more information," the Commanders said in a press release. "We are in communication with the NFL League Office and have no further comment at this time."
Lattimore, a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, spent the first seven seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints while tallying 15 interceptions, two interception returns for touchdowns, and five forced fumbles.
The Saints traded the veteran cornerback to the Commanders midway through his eighth season in the NFL (2024). He then appeared in two games after the November trade.
Lattimore returned to the Commanders this past season, and he started nine games while registering 27 tackles, seven passes defensed, one fumble recovery and one interception. He did not finish the season after tearing his ACL against the Seahawks.
Spotrac notes that the veteran has one year remaining on his five-year, $97,603,000 contract. He has a base salary of $16.5 million in 2026 and a $2 million roster bonus.
He does not have any guaranteed money, so he would count $18.5 million against the salary cap if the Commanders choose not to bring him back in 2026.
