The Dallas Cowboys are off to a red-hot 2-0 start thanks to their defense, but they may have lost one of their best defensive players for the season on Thursday.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the injury was non-contact in a one-on-one drill in practice.

Diggs signed a massive, five-year $97 million deal this offseason.
The 25-year-old defensive back allowed two receptions on eight targets for 26 yards through two games. He also had an interception of New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson and had two pass breakups. In Week 1, he allowed two catches on three targets for 26 yards, but in Week 2, he didn't allow a single catch on five targets.
Diggs burst onto the NFL scene in 2021, intercepting a league-high 11 passes. Last season, he had three but had ten pass breakups.
Drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and 51st overall, Diggs has 18 career interceptions and has allowed 16 touchdowns. He's been targeted 276 times and has allowed 167 catches (60.5% reception rate) for 2,504 yards.
Behind Diggs is Eric Scott Jr., a sixth-round pick from this previous draft out of Southern Mississippi. There's also former Miami Dolphins first-round pick Noah Igbinoghene. Igbinoghene was drafted in 2020 as well, but 30th overall. He played 14 coverage snaps in Week 1, allowing one catch on two targets for eight yards.
With Diggs on the roster, the Cowboys will need to entrust one of them or look to the trade/free agent market to fill the void opposite Stephon Gilmore.
Diggs joins a (sadly) long list of players injured recently, including Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb, New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, and Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Considering the Cowboys one of the best defenses in football, allowed 10 points through two weeks, this could be a considerate blow to the team. Dallas heads out on the road to battle the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3.
