NFL expansion to 18 games in 2027 still very much on the table

It's not a matter of if the NFL will expand to 18 regular-season games. It's a matter of when. And according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, that "when" might be 2027.

Florio reports that the league still hasn't locked in an official date for Super Bowl LXII in Atlanta, and there's a very specific reason. Namely, they're leaving the door wide open for an 18-game schedule.

If the season stays at 17 games, the Super Bowl would likely land on February 13, 2028. If they bump it to 18 games, it could move back a full week to February 20.

The league is also toying with the idea of adding a second bye week, which would force them to start the season on Labor Day weekend for the first time since 2001.

Commissioner Roger Goodell claimed last week that adding an 18th game isn't a "given." But come on — this league prints money. We all know it's coming.

The NFLPA's interim director says players aren't interested in another game right now, but the league is reportedly waiting until a permanent replacement is named before making its next push.

Circle 2027. It's coming.

While everyone seems to be in denial, this league is all about the bottom dollar. First, last, and forever. And an extra game means extra cash.
