Fans Pissed at Michael Strahan Over Anthem Gesture
Amid the Veteran's Day weekend, the NFL on Fox paid tribute to all the service members by playing the National Anthem. Several fans noticed that during the song, Strahan had his hands folded, as opposed to over his heart, which they deemed disrespectful.
It led to a firestorm of rage aimed in his direction on social media.
"How f*****g disrespectful on Michael Strahan to not have his hand on heart, especially in front of all those Navy personnel. You should be removed from the broadcast team. I hope there are repercussions for your actions," one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"This is Michael Strahan during the Fox NFL Sunday show on Veterans Day. DURING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM. How disrespectful to all Veterans and Americans," another fan added.
Colin Kaepernick Gets Honest on Donald Trump
If Strahan was indeed protesting the National Anthem, he wouldn't be the first to do so. Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick did the same thing in 2016 and had a domino effect where others started to follow suit. That led to Kaepernick being targeted by then-President, Donald Trump who said he wished the NFL would fire Kaepernick and any other players who protested the anthem.
Kaepernick said he felt that moment in 2016 was just a glimpse into what many people are still dealing with today.
"I think one of the key elements that is important to think about in relation to that moment is what does it mean to at that point have a then-sitting president being willing to target an individual citizen and using the power of their office, the power of their influence, to be able to try to minimize an individual and their aspirations," Kaepernick said.
"So, thinking back to that moment, I also think, plays really prevalent into where we are at today and the future that we decide to build together."
