Known as Premier Flag, this league is the result of a collaboration between the NFL and TMRW Sports. It will launch in summer 2027 from a host city, one that these organizations will reveal at a later date.
The new league has multiple purposes. One of the biggest is adding a professional tier to the flag football pipeline. This sport already has teams in youth, high school, college, and international divisions. It will become an official part of the Olympic Games in 2028.
Adding a professional tier provides another opportunity for men and women to continue their playing careers and pursue the sport at an elite level.
A massive group of investors has jumped on board to support this endeavor. This includes all 32 team owners, current players, strategic investors, former players, and women athletes.
"Flag football is exploding in popularity, and Premier Flag is establishing itself as the destination for the world's top women and men competing at the highest level of the sport," said Brendan Donohue, president of flag football for TMRW Sports.
"The Premier Flag brand represents where flag football is headed — elite, global and accessible — while setting a professional standard for the sport's growing ecosystem. When we launch next summer, fans will have the opportunity to see these amazing athletes perform at their best, supported by Premier Flag's world-class training, strength and conditioning, nutrition and coaching programs."
Both the NFL and TMRW Sports previously announced that they would hold a flag football showcase in February 2027. This will be part of the Super Bowl 61 festivities in Los Angeles, California, and it will happen in a purpose-built venue.
This Premier Flag Super Bowl Showcase will feature 2026 Pro Bowl players, football legends, and Hall of Famers.
