Teammates and players across the league reacted quickly, as relayed by TMZ. Juanyeh Thomas called Kneeland "a bright spirit... a brother and a great person." Russell Wilson called it "a tragic loss" and added he is praying for Kneeland's family, friends and teammates.
Western Michigan — Kneeland's alma mater — said it is "heartbroken over the passing." Vice President and AD Dan Bartholomae noted Kneeland worked hard to earn his degree and reach the NFL, calling him a beloved part of the campus community.
Kneeland was drafted by Dallas this year after a strong college career and was beginning his NFL arc. The Frisco Police Department confirmed the investigation remains open and that officers located his vehicle late Wednesday night before eventually locating Kneeland in the same area after an extended search.
The Cowboys have not released a public statement yet.
Grief is spreading in every direction. Players who crossed paths with him talked about his energy and his presence. He was 24, he made it to the league, and the people who knew him believed better chapters were coming.
