Patriots’ Super Bowl loss keeps strange Alabama, New England streak alive

This is pretty incredible.

The New England Patriots and Alabama Crimson Tide have never won their respective championships in the same season. This streak continued on Saturday, as the Patriots fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

It is a weird streak considering both of those football entities' dynasties are happening around the same time — although, it is worth noting that New England's spans nearly two decades.

Bill Belichick and Tom Brady began their run of greatness in 2001 with a Super Bowl win, then followed that up by winning more Super Sundays in 2003, 2004, 2014 and 2016. For those not so awesome at math, that's five Super Bowl wins.

As for Nick Saban and his upstart Crimson Tide, Alabama has won the National Championship in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2017. Again, that is also five titles won.

Hooray, math!

Anyway, this just seems more like a weird streak happening than something we should use for our (legal) gambling decisions in future years. If Alabama does win the National Championship again next season, I highly doubt it will alter the line if the Patriots made it back to the Super Bowl.

Nick Foles won the MVP after Sunday's historic Super Bowl, in which the Eagles won the entire shebang.
