After calling him a distraction, Cowboys EVP gives cryptic statement on Dez Bryant's contract

This might not turn out well.

Dez Bryant is due to make $12.5 million this year, but many people have said that he is not quite worth that money. The Cowboys have been asked about whether or not they would negotiate a salary cut for him and when asked about the contract situation again, the team EVP in Stephen Jones said this:

So he starts out by complimenting Bryant on his willingness to compete, but then seemingly insults him by saying he needs to held accountable. This is also the same guy who called Bryant a "distraction" at the beginning of this year. The mercurial receiver did manage to put up 838 receiving yards on 69 catches despite his quarterback having the epitome of a sophomore slump. However, that's not the production the Cowboys are used to as Bryant has shown he can be a good 1,000-yard receiver as he did record more than that in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

But his $25 million owed to him over the next two years is concerning for the franchise who wants to be more flexible in its spending and give that money to other players who they feel are earning it. Players like DeMarcus Lawrence who they will be negotiating with this offseason and are hoping to not have to franchise tag him.
